Germantown Christian Assembly

“Impacting people who impact others to the glory of Christ.” Matt. 5:16

GCA Vision – A “WELL” CHURCH

Our vision is to be a healthy church that impacts lives to the glory of God by emphasizing and encouraging true worship, personal evangelism, sacrificial loving, and lifelong learning.

History of GCA

Germantown Christian Assembly began in June 1973 with 27 members as a result of a gospel crusade convened at the Church of the Atonement in Philadelphia, PA, under the leadership of Dr. B. Sam Hart of the Grand Old Gospel Fellowship (GOGF).

Approximately one year later, the Assembly purchased a large house located at 610 East Mount Pleasant Avenue to serve as its first church home.  As a result of continued growth, the Assembly submitted plans for expansion to City Hall in the summer of 1976.  By May 1978, the young Assembly observed its 4th anniversary in its renovated facility.

In 1980, founder Dr. B. Sam Hart was led to establish a new work in Ambler, PA.  Dr. Sam Hart's brother, Charles Hart, was called to give leadership to the now well-established work.  Under Dr. Charles Hart's leadership the Assembly continued to grow.  New ministries were developed, new programs for community and global outreach were instituted, and Sunday school and Vacation Bible School flourished.

By 1982 the Assembly was supporting nine missionaries and missionary projects in this country and abroad.  A number of its men were preparing to serve the Lord by attending Bible college and five elders were appointed to shepherd this growing and vibrant fellowship.

The need for larger facilities became apparent with every passing year, so the decision was made to demolish the then present facility and replace it with a completely new and larger facility.  Easter Sunday 1989 marked the last service in the old facility.  While the new facility was under construction the Assembly shared the facilities of other local churches.  On Good Friday and Easter Sunday 1990 the Assembly held its first service in its new building.

In January 2006 Dr. Emmitt Cornelius, Jr. was installed as the new Lead Pastor at Germantown Christian Assembly and Dr. Charles Hart was recognized as Pastor Emeritus.  The Assembly continues to grow and purposes to make an impact locally and globally to the glory of Christ.
