BIOGRAPHY OF DR. EMMITT CORNELIUS, JR.
Emmitt Cornelius, Jr. was born in Jackson, Mississippi. He earned his Bachelors degree in Accounting from the historically black Tougaloo College in Tougaloo Mississippi. It was during his third year in college that Emmitt accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
After working as an accountant in Jackson for several years and a brief stint working on his Masters degree in Accounting at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, Emmitt Cornelius experienced God’s call into full time Christian service.
Emmitt enrolled at Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas, where he earned a Masters degree in Theology (1986). He returned to work with his father for several years as Assistant Pastor at Grace Bible Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. In 1994 Emmitt moved with his family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in order to continue his studies at Westminster Theological Seminary where he earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree (2005). Emmitt Cornelius holds the distinction of being the first African American to earn a PhD at Westminster.
Dr. Cornelius is currently lead pastor at Germantown Christian Assembly in Philadelphia, PA. Through his expository preaching, Dr. Cornelius seeks to bring people to a deeper knowledge of God and equip them to live out God’s purpose for their lives. Dr. Cornelius is married to the former Janice Denise Moore. They have five children—Hope, Joshua, Justin, Jonathan, and Josiah—and reside in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania.
